Educational, social and technological innovations for sustainable agricultural development and cooperativism in rural territories of the Ecuadorian and Brazilian Amazon

Activities

WP 1. Project Management and Coordination

The goal of this WP is to ensure the administrative and financial coordination of the project, while taking into account the deadlines and developing tools that will allow the achievement of the expected results of the project:

  • To ensuring optimal coordination of the activities of the other tasks ;
  • To ensuring that the project is running as planned in terms of logistical indicators: expenditure, commitment of staff, missions, deliverables, organisation of team meetings, participation in editing activities;
  • To ensure internal dissemination of information among project members.

WP 2. Equipment

The objective of this WP is to be able to lay the technological groundwork for equipping the partner institutions and their users, and thus give them access to the new and innovative digital educational tools that will be developed during the other work packages.

WP 3. Infrastructure development

The objective of this WP is to develop the necessary infrastructure for the dissemination of digital tools betweeninstitutions in Brazil and Ecuador, between professors and students and with cooperatives and Indigenous or traditional communities.

  • Design and installation of the Content Management System (CMS)
  • Implementation of the multilingual video platform
  • Implementation of an automatic Spanish-Portuguese translation

WP 4. Development of audiovisual learning resources

This WP aims to develop innovative educational content, accessible to all (including illiterate audiences) that will build the capacity of students and community leaders in the management and administration of cooperatives and their relationship to sustainable territorial development.

Creating and putting online common educational digital audiovisual resources in open access will concern the following areas:

  • n°1: Creation, management and administration of cooperatives (highlighting the role of women and youth, the valorisation of traditional knowledge);
  • n°2 : Traditional knowledge on gathering activities and medicinal plants;
  • n° 3: Technological innovations based on agroecology: agroforestry systems, soil conservation, increasing resilience to climate change, based on technologies adapted to the means and skills of the farmers
  • n°4: Family food industry: added value, sanitary standards, waste recovery;
  • n°5 : Rural, community and ecotourism ;
  • n°6: Family farming and territory: collective articulation with development actors, role of women and youth in rural development.

WP 5. Development of the knowledge exchange platform

The collaborative web-based knowledge exchange platform will operate in text, audio or audiovisual form, with the participation of professors, students, family farmers and members of traditional communities, members of cooperatives / associations. Audio-visual recordings will be made by students and professors.

  • To create and/or strengthen a link between universities and companies, which will enhance the exchange of knowledge and concrete cooperation with contacts and internship offers.
  • To provide students with new skills, through the production of audio and video content, which are useful for the communication of knowledge (new learning methods).
  • The platform will still be available after the end of the project and will continue to be used

WP 6. Development of the collaborative map

This WP will develop interactions between universities and cooperatives/associations through a participatory map to enable students to develop a stronger link with the world of work.

It will allow to:

  • To communicate the experiences of family producers and Indigenous or traditional communities in the field of agro-ecology, agro-food processing by cooperatives or associations of family producers, traditional knowledge, ecotourism and community tourism
  • To identify places for student internships in cooperatives
  • To create a network between cooperatives in the two regions concerned, in Ecuador and Brazil
  • Strengthen the link between university and local social and solidarity-based economy
  • To give students new skills, through the use of the map and the development of participatory approaches (new learning methods).

The map will still be available after the end of the project and will continue to be enriched

WP 7. Training

The main objective of this WP will be to put into practice the innovative pedagogical tools developed through WP 4-5-6, through several training sessions of the different target groups of the ICOOPEB project:

  • Training of family farmers and Indigenous or traditional communities by professors in partner higher education institutions on the themes of cooperatives, sustainable production and territorial development, using the tools created by the project (educational resources, audiovisuals audiovisual resources, exchange platform and participatory map, produced by WP 4-5-6)
  • Training of students in the design of posters and other popularisation documents (flyers, newsletters) disseminating experiences carried out by or with producers and Indigenous or traditional communities to share technological innovation based on local knowledge. The aim is to master a media design adapted to the cultural and professional context, in concise and demonstrative forms.

WP 8. Project quality assurance and evaluation

  • To assess how the project's results meet its objectives and thus particularly the strengthening of the HEIs' links with the professional world of cooperatives, with Indigenous or traditional communities and with local authorities.
  • To evaluate the quality of the tools developed as well as their use, the ease of use for students, communities and producers in order to improve the tools or their modalities of use.
  • To monitor how well the training courses are going in the communities and how they meet the needs of the participants, what they have brought to them.
  • To monitor the functioning of the consortium and solve any problems that may arise.

WP 9. Dissemination of results and sustainability

This WP will ensure the proper dissemination of the project results by ensuring effective communication which will be supported by a dissemination strategy developed at the beginning of the project and whose planned dissemination events will allow for an impactful implementation.

  • To communicate with other Amazonian HEIs.
  • To communicate with professionals in the field in Amazonia.
  • To communicate with international institutions acting in the Amazon
  • To evaluate dissemination through quantitative tools

In a second phase, it will be a question of setting up the tools that will allow a perpetuation of these results, beyond the life cycle of the ICOOPEB project. The results will last after the end of the project due to the skills acquired by the teaching teams in terms of digital teaching and thematic content, due to the international network established, allowing for mutual enrichment through shared experiences and the ability to develop solutions, and also because of the tools developed which, with the help of a relatively low level of maintenance, can be used to with relatively simple maintenance and no (or very low) subscription costs, giving preference to open source software from the outset. The tools will continue to serve academic and professional users.

  • Enrichment with new audiovisual educational resources created after the end of the project at the initiative of the partners who will have acquired the skills to to do so.
  • In each Latin American institution, training of a technician/engineer person to maintain and manage the CMS, the automatic translation, the participatory map and the exchange platform.
  • To evaluate the real exploitation of the project results by a survey carried out 3 years after its end.
