Educational, social and technological innovations for sustainable agricultural development and cooperativism in rural territories of the Ecuadorian and Brazilian Amazon

Objectives

The general objective is to strengthen the training of students on cooperativism and the sustainable development of rural territories in the Amazon by enhancing both scientific and local knowledge through the creation and use of digital tools shared between universities and family producers.

 

Specific objectives:

  • To create a network between universities in Brazil and Ecuador to share knowledge and academic experiences and to strengthen inter-cooperation between cooperatives;
  • Strengthen social and technological innovations through education, integrating local knowledge, in rural areas of Ecuador. Strengthen social and technological innovations through education, integrating local knowledge, in the rural areas of the Amazon in their social and environmental diversity;
  • Promote the training of students in new information and communication technologies (ICTs) in conjunction with their disciplinary training;
  • Develop interactions between universities and cooperatives and associations of family producers to enable students to enter the world of work;
  • Improve the management and administrative skills of cooperatives and associations that support sustainable development of territories;
  • To improve the autonomy of women and young people in rural areas through innovative educational processes.

 

To achieve these objectives, we will build the following digital tools (activities):

  • Common audiovisual resources consisting of professors' presentations, observations of testimonies of producers, cooperative managers etc. The functionalities will include Portuguese subtitles when the speaker speaks Spanish and vice versa. The  resources will be freely accessible. They will be used to assist professors (in addition to the project team) during their the project team) during their lessons in the schools.
  • Publication of a bilingual knowledge exchange platform for students, professors, producers, Indigenous and traditional community members, cooperative managers, territorial development stakeholders etc. on the themes of agriculture, tourism, gathering and other traditional or innovative activities practiced in the Amazon.
  • Participatory map with registration of projects and experiences of family producers and Indigenous communities, fed by the users, integrating text (with translation), photos and videos. The map will be open and accessible on the Internet with computer and smartphone.
  • Training of students to create posters and other awareness documents (flyers, newsletters) with producers and communities to build and share technological innovation based on local knowledge.
